SiOC Benefits

SiOC is a not-for profit organization dedicated to providing support, education, information, networking, and other opportunities to the public information, communication, editorial and publication professionals in California state service.

 

 


 

 

The SiOC Stephan Brophy Memorial Scholarship

Your SiOC membership dues support our scholarship program, an endowment at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). Your annual dues and monthly fees provide two $1,000 scholarships annually to students pursuing degrees leading to a career in the media or as an information officer in government service.


The scholarship is named after the late Stephan Brophy, a SiOC Board of Directors Secretary, who was tragically killed by a hit and run driver.

 

Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior
  • Communications Studies, English or Journalism Major
  • Minimum overall GPA 2.50
  • Minimum major GPA 3.0
  • Enrollment of 12+ units

Application

Applications are available in the Communications Studies Office (Mendocino Hall, Room 5014)

Annual Awards Contest

SiOC holds an annual awards contest to highlight the "best of the best" in state public information. Award applications are available for work done in the previous calendar year.

Your entry fees and cost of the luncheon purchase not only the awards, but the banquet room rental/lunch with the remainer going to the Stephan Brophy Memorial Scholarship Fund.
